Today is his birthday! Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Germany. He spent much of his life as a scholar in Berlin. He wrote several monumental papers that changed the study of physics, including his development of the theory of relativity. Einstein’s work relied on his intuition.

• Einstein was often asked to explain the general theory of relativity. “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour,” he once declared. “Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s relativity!”
